“Flower” is an absolutely unique shot from Szymon Brodziak portraying his wife Ana. Captured on their beloved, windy Lanzarote island in 2014 – unlike many other Brodziak’s projects – this iconic picture was totally unplanned and spontaneous.The Famara beach on Lanzarote was also very inspiring for the great director Perdo Almodóvar, who used this location to shoot a couple of scenes of “Broken Embraces” film (Los abrazos rotos, 2009) with Penélope Cruz.
"This photograph was taken on my be- loved island of Lanzarote. In 2014 I was there once again on holiday with my wife Anna. When we go together I o en take my camera and a few light out ts. is photograph was completely unplanned – one late a ernoon during a walk from our house to a nearby shing village, where we would have dinners in our favourite restaurant. I was inspired by a windmill at the beach, I asked Anna to stand at its background. At this mo- ment her pleated skirt was suddenly blown up
by a strong wind. e windmill was no longer important, it was that moment. All I had to do was press the shutter button. A moment later it was all over, I felt that something special had happened. Soon I sold this photograph to a private collection as a unique and this was the rst time in my career. Now, years later, when I look at this photograph, instead of distancing myself from the interpretation with my artistic credo “what you see is who you are” I want to say that I see... love."- Szymon Brodziak, quote from ablum "What you see is who you are"
